U of O Student Recreation Center

The University of Oregon Student Recreation Center project was an addition and renovation to the existing recreation center. A 40,000sf renovation along with an add on of 110,000sf brought the recreation center to a total size of 280,000sf. Total construction time was sixteen months. The new construction added pools, a hot tub, basketball courts, classrooms, offices, open gym areas, weights room, locker rooms, a large lobby area, a yoga studio, and more. Renovated area included a Duck Store, new entry lobby and rock climbing gym. Learn more about the rec center here.

The University of Oregon Student Recreation Center includes high-end finishes, open atrium area with large skylights above, large exterior window systems overlooking sports fields, open areas overlooking the pool area, large vaulted ceilings, and wood finishes throughout. WPI was responsible for the interior and exterior framing, weather barrier, drywall, insulation, ACT, suspended ceilings, Stucco, and fireproofing on this project.

This project was on an extremely expedited schedule to allow for occupancy prior to the ensuing new school semester. This demand required working extended hours and the integration of multiple crews within the workspace. Despite these challenges, WPI’s crews were able to accomplish the task within the designated timeline.

WPI partnered with MWESB subcontractors to complete the drywall and finishing scope of work. This created a unique dynamic between typically competing companies joining forces to construct this visually exceptional and versatile building for the University of Oregon Campus.
