The new nine-story, state-of-the-art corporate headquarters for Daimler Trucks North America, towers over its corporate campus located alongside the Willamette River in North Portland. The project, named Daimler NOVA (short for innovation), can’t be missed as you enter Swan Island. A 270,000sf office building, housing over 1,000 employees and including eight floors of high-tech office space, conference rooms, massive covered patios, a café, dining hall and an ultra-impressive lobby, which shows off their latest innovations and inspire more to come. The project also includes a separate 400,000sf four-story parking garage located nearby.
WPI performed a large variety of scopes of work including: Exterior rainscreen wall system consisting of exterior framing, sheathing, insulation, weather barrier, and Terracotta cladding system; Interior gypsum board assemblies, firestopping and joint sealants, T&G wood canopies, composite wood cladding, raised access flooring, acoustical ceilings and clouds, Pinta direct-applied ceiling panels, wood ceilings, fabric wall panels, FRP, doors, frames, and hardware installation.
The European influence of the owner and design concepts continued to manifest in the material selections. Terracotta rainscreen cladding and Pinta ceiling panels from Germany, Parklex composite cladding from Spain and wood ceilings from Springfield, Oregon. The variety of products and materials added another level of logistical challenges; making communication and tracking critical to execute the project’s demanding ten month schedule.
The new Daimler North America Headquarters accommodates new positions for future business growth and allows Daimler employees once separated in multiple office buildings across the city to merge. The NOVA project was committed from the start to innovation and sustainability, achieving a LEED Platinum certification.
