Job Description

The Logistics Specialist role is responsible for managing the flow of goods from suppliers to the WPI factory, back out to value-add suppliers, and ultimately then on to end customers. This is accomplished by coordinating transportation, tracking shipments, understanding inventory positions, being connected to manufacturing output, analyzing logistics data, developing strategic relationships with carriers, and collaborating with all stakeholders to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery while adhering to applicable regulations. The goal is to optimize supply chain efficiency and manage all costs associated with transportation.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, manage and evaluate logistics operations liaising with internal stakeholders, suppliers, logistics providers, transportation companies and customers
  • Develop forecasting plans to ensure sufficient capacity at carriers
  • Establish priorities, track shipments real-time, and ensure availability of capable providers
  • Keep records of all shipments (Packing Lists, BOLs, receipt confirmations)
  • Maintain shipping schedules and hit deadlines for rush shipments
  • Monitor and report on supply chain performance metrics, such as on-time delivery, actual spend vs target, and cost savings
  • Create and implement best practice logistics principles, policies and processes across the organization to improve operational and financial performance
  • Drive creation of packaging requirements and lead the sourcing of these materials
  • Negotiate rates and contracts with transportation and logistics providers
  • Select carriers/suppliers and monitor service against performance criteria
  • Ensure carrier compliance with company policies or procedures for product transit or delivery
  • Resolve problems concerning transportation, logistics systems, and customer issues
  • Review impact of logistics changes, such as routing, shipping modes, product volumes or carriers and report results to others
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and identify cost optimization opportunities
  • Interpret trends and analyze and review data. Provide meaningful logistics data to others in the organization to aid customer service and cost improvements
  • Ensure IT systems in place are effective, maintained and accurate
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and stay updated on industry standards

 

Location / Hours:

On site in Salt Lake City, UT. Day shift, 40 hours per week.

 

Basic Requirements:

  • At least 3 years’ proven work experience as a Logistics Manager
  • Attention to detail and able to support multiple complex deployment projects simultaneously
  • Good understanding of supply chain processes and their interdependencies
  • Strong IT systems knowledge, including advanced Excel skills
  • Knowledge and experience of using ERP/MRP systems
  • Proficient in standard logistics software
  • Ability to work autonomously and exercises discretion and independent judgement
  • Project management skills
  • Commercial and financial acumen with a full understanding of the impact of failure in terms of business cost, production schedules and customer order fulfilment

 

Preferred Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or Operations Management
  • Expert knowledge of technical regulations related to logistics such as import/export and customs regulations, including security requirements and dangerous goods handling
  • APICS CLTD certification
  • Knowledge of lean techniques would be advantageous
