Collaborative Life Sciences Building & Skourtes Tower

The Collaborative Life Sciences Building (CLSB) is a 500,000sf project owned by Oregon Health & Science University, Oregon State University and Portland State University. It is located in the South Waterfront District of Portland, Oregon. This award-winning project utilized over two and a half miles of framing and over twenty-eight miles of studs and track. The framing of the exterior and atrium lecture halls tested WPI’s framing expertise because the angular walls are formed by several different angles designed to tie into each other, somewhat like a giant pie. This framing and layout challenged the mathematical skills of the WPI team with key layout points outside the framed area. The angular walls and sheer magnitude of the light-gauge steel framing was a challenge that the WPI Construction Team accepted and was presented with the NWCB’s 2015 Project of the Year in Light Gauge Steel Framing.

The end result was one of the most magnificent framing jobs in recent memory in the Pacific Northwest. Projects with the framing complexity of the Collaborative Life Sciences Building are few and far between. JE Dunn Construction knew that WPI, including the well trained veteran UBC framers they employ, were the ones who could accomplish this extremely challenging project.
