Located in downtown Portland, the new Karl Miller Center, is home to the Portland State University School of Business. Rejecting the singular-block construction that dominates its surroundings, the building design appears as two distinct structures sharing a city block. WPI teamed up with the general contractor, Skanska USA, to complete this project.
The staggered tier design of the new building is, well… staggering. It features massive cantilevers clad in regionally-sourced Alaskan Yellow Cedar that creates a stark contrast to the shiny metal panel façade of the renovated structure. The two structures are linked by a Louvre-esque glass atrium full of sky bridges on every floor, with an abundance of open space fostering the School’s collaborative learning approach. The Karl Miller Center will be a place for students and professionals to learn, network and advance their careers for years to come.
