Columbus, Ohio, United States; Denton, Texas, United States; Salt Lake City, Utah, United States; Wilsonville, Oregon, United StatesWhy Work Here?
Help shape the systems and technology behind WPI’s manufacturing operations. The Manufacturing Systems Engineer is a hands-on technical role that turns operational needs into practical, scalable, and supportable solutions.
About the Role
Reporting to the Operations Systems Manager, the Manufacturing Systems Engineer designs, builds, integrates, supports, and improves applications and workflows used by WPI’s manufacturing teams. This hands-on role serves as technical owner for assigned applications, with QuickBase as the primary platform. The successful candidate will configure applications, build workflows and integrations, troubleshoot issues, and move solutions from requirements through production support. Success requires understanding WPI’s operations and delivering solutions that are adopted, documented, reliable, and supportable.
What You’ll Do
Manufacturing Execution System Engineering and Solution Delivery
- Design, configure, test, deploy, and improve applications and workflows supporting manufacturing operations.
- Translate operational requirements into practical system designs, data models, workflows, reports, automations, and integrations.
- Serve as technical owner and subject matter expert for QuickBase and other assigned manufacturing execution systems applications.
- Simplify processes, reduce manual effort, and improve data quality and reliability.
- Deliver solutions from discovery through production support while balancing usability, security, maintainability, cost, and long-term value.
Application and Platform Ownership
- Own and continuously improve assigned manufacturing execution system applications.
- Manage data models, access, workflows, automations, dashboards, and reports.
- Troubleshoot application, integration, performance, and data issues, correcting recurring root causes.
- Maintain appropriate development, testing, validation, change management, and release practices.
- Apply WPI standards for access, data handling, change management, documentation, and support in partnership with Information Technology.
- Monitor application health, data quality, automation, and integration reliability, with clear ownership and support procedures.
Integration and Automation
- Develop and support integrations among QuickBase, Procore, Viewpoint Vista, Microsoft 365, and other WPI systems.
- Use APIs, connectors, webhooks, scripting, and low-code tools to connect systems and automate processes.
- Diagnose integration and data-flow failures with attention to exception handling, permissions, data integrity, and supportability.
- Favor practical, maintainable solutions over unnecessary technical complexity.
Documentation, Training, and Support
- Maintain technical documentation, system diagrams, data mappings, test plans, release records, and support procedures.
- Develop user guidance and training for application and process changes.
- Provide advanced support and establish clear escalation paths with Information Technology and the Help Desk.
- Address recurring support issues through system, process, documentation, or training improvements.
- Transition new solutions into sustainable operational support.
How Success Will Be Measured
- Solutions are adopted by operational teams and reduce manual work, errors, or process delays.
- Assigned applications and integrations are reliable, documented, secure, and supportable.
- Projects move predictably from discovery through deployment and production support.
- Data quality, workflow consistency, and visibility improve across supported manufacturing processes.
- Recurring support issues are reduced through root-cause correction, automation, documentation, or training.
What We’re Looking For
- Three or more years of related experience in business applications, manufacturing technology, workflow automation, systems integration, or a comparable role. Equivalent education and practical experience will be considered.
- QuickBase development or administration experience is strongly preferred. Comparable low-code platform experience will be considered, especially in manufacturing, specialty contracting, engineering, field services, or another project-based industry.
- Experience with application configuration, workflow design, data modeling, automation, reporting, testing, troubleshooting, and support.
- Working knowledge of APIs, connectors, authentication, JSON, webhooks, or related integration concepts.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify root causes rather than simply address symptoms.
- Strong communication skills with technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and move work from concept through operational use.
- Commitment to documentation, standardization, reliability, and responsive internal service.
Nice to Have
Experience with one or more of the following is beneficial; expertise across the full stack is not expected.
- Experience with Autodesk Forma & Procore
- Experience with Viewpoint Vista or comparable enterprise resource planning platforms.
- Experience with Microsoft 365, Fabric, Power Automate, Power BI, SharePoint, or related tools.
- Experience supporting integrations using APIs, middleware, integration platforms, or scripting.
- Working knowledge of SQL, PowerShell, Python, JavaScript, or similar technologies.
- Experience with manufacturing data, document control, estimating, preconstruction, project management, BIM, engineering, or safety systems.
Work Environment
- Primarily office-based with responsibilities across the organization.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support maintenance, upgrades, releases, or operational needs.
- Travel approximately once per quarter to manufacturing offices.
Compensation
Compensation is commensurate with experience, qualifications, and demonstrated skills.
Career Growth
This role offers growth across manufacturing technology, enterprise applications, integration, automation, data, business-process improvement, and solution engineering.
