Located in downtown Portland, the new Karl Miller Center, is home to the Portland University School of Business. Rejecting the singular-block construction that dominates its surroundings, the building design appears as two distinct structures sharing a city block.
The staggered tier design of the new building is, well… staggering. It features massive cantilevers clad in regionally-sourced Alaskan Yellow Cedar that creates a stark contrast to the shiny metal panel façade of the renovated structure. The two structures are linked by a Louvre-esque glass atrium full of sky bridges on every floor, with an abundance of open space fostering the School’s collaborative learning approach.
