The Estimator is responsible for estimating and quoting the project to maximize the safety, quality, and profits for the company. The ideal candidate works well with a team, has excellent time management, and knowledge of current costs associated with commercial construction. The Estimator will work out of WPI’s office in Sumner, Washington and will work on projects across western Washington.

This employee would report directly to the Regional Chief Estimator.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Comply with all Company policies/procedures
  • Read/Review all Contract Documents when Bidding any project
  • Reach out to GC prior to bidding, establish contact with lead estimator/PM, build relationship
  • Review all estimates and Forms with one other person prior to sending out
  • Estimator will review contract language, scope of work and special provisions in the contract. Ensure project team members are aware of these items
  • Read the specifications prior to bidding a job, or make sure in the letter of quotation that there is no specification available
  • Estimator is to write a synopsis of the work stating the scope and work, and any and all agreements with the contractor
  • Regularly maintain regional Bid Log for own jobs. Enter in quotes and update when won or lost in Salesforce.
  • Use Scope Letter Template as starting point and checklist for all bids.
  • Utilize pre-bid / pre-construction involvement by Pre-Construction Manager and CAD Manager / Detailer
  • Discuss field productions, wage rates, and any required travel per diem with Regional General Superintendents prior to submitting bids
  • Get material and subcontractor quotes from three (3) separate vendors using Quick Bid eQuotes. Lock in pricing when awarded
  • Upon securing the work, review the scope and any unclear agreements with the contractor. Verify contract matches Quick Bid. Review scope and any questions with Specialty Departments
  • Verify the original budget is signed off and agreed upon by all parties prior to being entered into accounting
  • Identify any “thrown-in” or negotiated items clearly the Project Manager during project setup
  • Identify any non-typical material included in the estimate to the Project Manager during project setup
  • Estimator is to hand over job file and summary to PM. Take part in thorough pass off
  • Attend major projects walks at 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% with Senior Management
  • As necessary, support, teach, and develop future leaders

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience in Drywall/Steel Stud Framing required.
  • 3-5 years of experience preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of current costs associated with commercial construction
  • Software proficiency: Microsoft Office Suite, On-Screen Takeoff, Quick Bid
  • Project management skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Critical-thinker and problem-solver
  • Experience in Construction Estimating a plus
  • Local to Sumner area preferred.

Compensation is dependent on experience and qualifications.
