The Lloyd Blocks project formally known as “Hassalo on Eighth” was one of the largest undertakings in WPI’s history. This project was the first expansion of its kind in Portland’s Lloyd district located on the East side of the Willamette River. Three new multi-floor apartment buildings with first floor commercial space were constructed simultaneously on one city block. Block 92 (Velomor) and Block 100 (The Elwood Building) were smaller 5 and 6 story wood framed buildings flanking the 21 story Block 101 Tower (Aster Tower) rising above them. With sustainability efforts like: rainwater harvesting and treatment, on-site water shed treatment and re-use with infiltration, district energy, natural daylighting, and access to public transportation, this green project earned a LEED Platinum certification.

As of this fall the project has been announced as LEED Homes Project of the Year 2017 from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). WPI is proud to have worked with Turner Construction on these innovative and sustainable multi-family homes designed by GBD Architects.
